This what our studio looks like this time of year : jewlery everywhere, orders and envelopes strewn across desks - chaos reigns! But it's inspiring. Cycles of Life: Rings from the Benjamin Zucker Family Collection

For those who follow our blog & our passion for antique jewelry, consider this. If you find yourself in New York City from Oct 30 - Dec 6th, make room in your schedule for a visit to Les Eluminures. Titled, 'Cycles of Life: Rings from the Benjamin Zucker Family Collection' - this exhibition collects over 40 exceptional museum-quality rings selected from the private collection of one of the world's leading gem dealers, experts, and connoisseurs. These will be on  public view together for the first time - the collection spans from 3rd century A.D. through to the later part of the 19th century (*see examples below). Not to be missed! From the Catalog : Since his first purchase in 1970, Benjamin Zucker has assembled one of the largest collections of marriage rings in private hands and a collection of diamond jewellery that is unrivalled, even by De Beers. With each ring selected for its exceptional quality of stones, rarity, and level of artistry, the collection features many fine examples of signet rings ranging from the 3rd to the 17th century; ancient Roman friendship and engagement rings; medieval posy rings; Renaissance and Baroque wedding rings; Jewish marriage rings, and memorial and death’s head memento mori rings from the 17th to the 19th century. They include a significant grouping of precious diamond-set rings. Many boast provenances dating back generations to Europe’s most prominent collecting families, including the de Clercqs and the Rothschilds. Ultimately, these exquisite jewels – many of which have been the subject of national and international museum exhibitions, loans, and publications – form a remarkable testament to a discerning eye.

Lockets

Often the most personal of adornments, a new batch of vintage lockets just came in. As they sat next to each other on a tray in the studio waiting to be revived, we couldn't help be struck by their gorgeous yet subtle variations of form & design. When the engravings, stones & enamels are all cleaned up they'll begin again - ready to acquire a new history.

 

July Wedding

This beautiful & stylish couple are great customers (& people) who were nice enough to share some shots from their picturesque July wedding. It was an intimate family affair, the bride wore a gorgeous dress that she made by hand (!) & the groom - upping the ante for grooms everywhere - wore a vintage snake pin on his lapel that he purchased from our Cambridge shop. They have 3 rings from us (see pics below) and she wore our pearl & gold vine earrings. We feel honored!

May Fare

The stores are abloom in activity with the studio humming along just trying to keep up. Lots of gorgeous new jewelry coming in weekly with incredible rings being made (custom & stock) and so many amazing antiques coming & going before we even get a chance to catalog them! Ring Book

At long last our new ring book is unveiled! This labor of love beautifully showcases the range of our ring offerings - from wedding bands & engagement rings to specialty custom work. To make it even easier to peruse, all you have to do is click on the 'ring book' button on our site & you will instantly have a high quality PDF on your desktop. Additionally, we have print copies in both stores so if you come in you can view the book alongside the current stock in the cases. Perfect!

New Antiques

Just in time for Spring we've added a bunch of new antiques to the online shop. So many gorgeous new pieces coming in and we want to share them all, before they're gone! Below is an incredible 14k Victorian ring with Opals & Rubies, in our Cambridge shop now.

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

This is a great story. Awhile back we got an email from a guy named Josh living in Equador looking for a band to accompany his grandmother's diamond. The catch was that the diamond was in Chicago with his brother. Rather than send the diamond to us they had a family jeweler in Chicago who was lined up to set the diamond in the band we'd provide. This required lots of back & forth about the diamond's specs, making sure the setting would be correct, look right & most importantly - fulfill what he was after. Turns out it worked! We just got a really sweet email directing us to his blog where you can read more about their beautiful, high altitude (16,463 feet to be precise), mountain top proposal.

 

Wing Ring

Here is something special & highlights some of the interesting custom work we're able to do for our customers as a small company. Recently a retired gentleman who served proudly in our military for many years approached us about transforming his wings into a ring. We were able to make a negative of his original pin (*see below), leaving it intact - then casting a positive in 14k Gold & making it into a ring. It came out beautifully & he couldn't have been happier with it!

 

  

September Wedding

The greatest rewards are sometimes in the smallest details. We just got this really nice note from a lovely couple whose wedding bands we made. They were married in September, her ring is our branch band (pictured below). They were nice to enough to send a picture from what looks to have been a magical day..

Did I ever write and express how much I love my beautiful wedding ring? (We got married in September)

I tried on perhaps two rings - here and there - before we came across your store while visiting Boston.  I didn't need to try on another one.

New Wedding Band

While going thru the images we'd set aside for our Engagement Ring posts (closing with Day 7 tomorrow) we couldn't help but be wowed by these pics of a recent addition to our wedding band offerings. These are so lovingly paired together! The thinner women's 'wheat band' has become a staple of our line but the wider ring (more masculine though looks great on a woman's finger as well) is a newer design that dovetails beautifully with the original. Shown here in 14k Yellow Gold.

Engagement Rings, Day 5

 

We bring our engagement rings posts to a close this week with one of our own designs. Probably our best selling ring - the dearly adored Hollin Wheat Band featuring an antique mine cut diamond with gorgeous clarity & color. This ring is an instant classic in that it updates it's vintage inspiration ever so slightly with it's streamlined appeal and offers something that's hard to find - a beauty that's both timeless and utterly wearable.
