Thursdays tend to be our busiest day of the week here in the studio - it's the day we send all of our orders & new jewelry out to both stores so they'll have things in time for the weekend. I always want to document all the lovely things heading out but, rarely find the time. Below are some quick pics we snapped this week just as a sampling of some of the beautiful creations you'll find in the shop...tomorrow!

Golden Ladder
Things have been busy busy so apologies for the gap in engagement ring posts - more to come tomorrow on that. For a gilded hold-over we've got our new Golden Ladder! This is a lovely antique library ladder that we moved (years ago now) from Brooklyn to Northampton, always knowing it would find it's higher purpose. The day has come - another coat of varnish & it's off to Cambridge where it will serve utilitarian function as well as add some purely aesthetic satisfaction to the mix. It's going to go against the gilded wall, so - gold against gold - where it will both disappear & show it's perfect contours in equal measure. Pics are from the basement where it's being worked on..

Gifts, Day 4
Let us not forget the men in our lives! While the majority of what we make & sell is oriented towards women, we have some great finds for men. Below is an incredible set of cuff links in their original box from the 20's - these are mother of pearl with rose gold & a brass backing in beautiful shape. More cuff links below that & a pocket knife from the 40's that's both functional & fashionable. New items are always coming in so the next birthday or anniversary stop in for a gift he won't soon forget.

Love Is In The Air
Just in time for the coldest month of the year as the days begin to grow ever so slightly longer and brighter - love is in the air. Valentines Day is fast approaching and we wanted to showcase some inspiring finds that will make great gifts for a beloved or just for yourself. Here we have a Victorian locket that trumps all with it's 'I Love Only You' inscription. The front of the locket has some nice Champagne Paste Rhinestones set into 9ct pinstripe Rolled Gold. The pictures here show it as it came to us but we're cleaning it up & putting it on an 18" chain - it's going to be absolutely lovely! Keep an eye out here for upcoming in-store & web promotions as Saint Valentine approaches..

Shopping for Art Deco Objects

As purveyor's of these objects ourselves, we thought we'd direct you to a piece in today's NY Times around shopping for beautiful Deco finds. As Guy Oliver, a period authority, says - 'Art Deco doesn’t age, because of the lines'. We agree! Deco pieces sit nicely alongside & embellish their more modern counterparts - whether a ring or a martini glass. Read HERE

Mistaken Identity
As many of you may, or may not have, taken notice of - the name Rebekah Brooks has lately been all over the NY Times, endlessly repeated on NPR, and shown up in countless other media outlets ad nauseum. The story of course revolves around British journalist & former newspaper editor Rebekah Brooks with (most unfortunately) the same name & spelling as our dear, beloved jeweler who owns this blog. While we hold this British journalist & her parent organization (News International) in absolute contempt for their despicable behavior we hope that a few of you who seem to be confused about who is who will gain clarity from this post & redirect any vitriolic mails to the applicable recipients : rmurdoch@newscorp.com. Thank You!
